The wonderful story of tiger grass

Tiger grass is a significant medicinal plant for cosmetics

No matter whether we talk about tiger grass, Indian pennywort, Centella asiatica, goto kola or pennywort, we always mean the umbelliferous plant native to the tropics.

Since the herbaceous plant can be cultivated well in moist soil, it is now also found in Europe. For example, ananné sources the active ingredient from Brittany, the northwestern coastal region of France.

The figurative name tiger grass comes from the legend according to which injured tigers rub themselves against the stalks of the plant to heal wounds. This story actually says it all about the wonderful healing properties of tiger grass and also provided for its nickname "herb of long life".

Both in Ayurvedic and traditional Chinese medicine, the medicinal plant has long been known. It is used to promote wound healing and strengthen the immune system. Due to its antibacterial and wound healing properties, tiger grass is one of the most important medicinal plants with anti-inflammatory effects as well as for accelerated wound healing.

Tiger grass or Centella asisatica has also long been used in cosmetics. But especially in recent years, the medicinal plant has experienced a real boom in the form of Cica creams. The name is composed of C for Centella and -ica from Asiatica. The positive effect on scars and eczema, but also on sore or sunburned skin, have given the Cica cream a permanent place in many home pharmacies.

But it has not only a positive effect in wound healing, but also antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties. This makes the powerful herb a very interesting ingredient for cosmetic products.

On the skin, the medicinal plant normalizes the growth rate of the cells of the epidermis, the epidermal cells. Thus, tiger grass prevents the excessive formation of callus cells, which can be caused, for example, by mild inflammation. The effect is shown by a noticeable reduction in redness and scaling. The natural plant also helps to strengthen capillary vessels and is therefore an effective remedy for couperose, cellulite and acne. These multiple properties all contribute to an improvement of the skin structure.
